Something’s In The Air!
by Maria Nerius
Scent crafting is enjoying resurgence in the creative community. With little fuss or muss, we can hand craft our own soaps, candles, potpourris and sachets.
Soap crafting is as simple as gathering some melt and pour soap base, scent, a cutting knife and measuring cup around your microwave oven. When making your own soap you’ll have two options for soap base. The first is coconut oil soap base, which is off-white in color and opaque. The second is glycerin soap base, which is clear and transparent. CreateForLess has pre-colored soap base by Delta available in both coconut and glycerin. They also carry soap colorants by Envirotex and Yaley if you are in the mood to experiment. The hardest part of soap making is selecting the mold. With so many great choices (plastic, metal or rubber molds in a wide variety of shapes and sizes), you’ll end up wanting to have them all. Don’t forget soap making kits from Soap Expressions too.

Making your own candles is fun. You can truly personalize your candles to match your home and gift needs. At CreateForLess you’ll find all your candle making supplies from wax to candle scent to candle dyes to wicks! You’ll even find the supplies needed for the hottest candle technique-gel candles! Some supplies can be used for both candle making and soapmaking, but be sure to read the labeling carefully. Candle making scents (unless essential oils are used) should not be used in soapmaking. And only liquid colorants can be used with gel candles.
