Review Guidelines

absolutely essential & economical
You should never, ever keep your threads on cardboard bobbins, almost all of which contain acid. Extensive collections (which most intensive needleworkers have) will last for decades if kept away from acid-containing products. The fact that there are more options in thread than ever before and they are also more expensive than ever before mean that collections are built up over longer periods and cost more. At a miniscule two cents apiece, these are a bargain compared to the cost of the skeins they may protect. These can also be used as a low-cost substitute for the bobbins used with Kumi-looms. Kumi-Looms are fantastic and well worth the price, but the bobbins made for them, while they are terriffic, are very expensive. You would have to hook the thread you are in the notch to keep them from unraveling, stopping periodically to unwind a bit more, but it is actually infinitely easier to handle the work and minimize tangling when you work with bobbins. It goes substantially faster, as well. These also fit perfectly in the Darice 7-compartment (CFL# 06331372) and 17-compartment (CFL# 082676039720) plastic organizers. These cost as little as $2.19 apiece, making them fantastic low-cost organizers. (The larger one is $3.79/1 or $2.59 apiece if you buy three, which is like buying two and getting the third one for 19 cents. Prices are as of the time of this writing, of course.) I use the larger boxes for long-term organization and the smaller boxes for specific projects (they fit nicely in most needlework bags) and for more expensive threads that I collect very slowly, such as silk. The system of boxes and bobbins produced by Darice is substantially less expensive than virtually all the alternate methods of organizing thread collections, is more flexible, and work better than most. (I have spent too much money in the past on overpriced, clumsy organizers that were designed primarily to separate you from your cash.) Super bobbins
I developed a helpful product for my business and the Darice floss bobbins are perfect for it. I make hooked wool rugs, and dye my own wool. I figured a way to use the plastic bobbins to identify and label my wool as well as a way of organizing my colors for projects. I Recommend This ProductAbout Me: General CrafterSkill Level: Expert
